Santa Clarita business leaders are planning a trip to China with Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich to discuss the expansion of business relationships.
The Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corp. organized the “trade mission” to Shenzhen, China, and Hong Kong, so Santa Clarita business leaders can meet with civic and business leaders to explore future business relationships, including the possibility of companies establishing U.S. operations in Santa Clarita, according to a news release by SCVEDC.
“The Santa Clarita Valley offers great opportunities for Chinese companies looking to enter the U.S. market,” said SCVEDC President and CEO Holly Schroeder. “With nine major business parks, easy access to transportation, our foreign trade zone incentives and great quality of life, the Santa Clarita Valley is an ideal location for these companies to set up business on the west coast.”

Meetings are scheduled with technology, manufacturing, biomedical, electronics and communications companies, and attendees are also planning to attend a major investor conference in Shenzhen.
Santa Clarita business leaders were selected based on their unique expertise, which SCVEDC officials said has the potential to help Chinese companies expand their global market.
Leaders scheduled to participate include Schroeder, AMS Fulfillment CEO Ken Wiseman, Randy Wrage of Spirit Holding, Steve Tannehill and Jia-Yi Cheng-Levine from College of the Canyons and CBRE Executive Vice President Craig Peters, according to the news release.
“The number of calls we receive from foreign companies inquiring about doing business in the U.S. has been increasing,” said Wiseman. “This delegation to China will show a coordinated effort to help these businesses get established and feel welcome.”
Tannehill and Cheng-Levine, who will be representing COC’s economic development division and international student program, plan to promote the college’s new immersive language institute, as well as the diverse resources the school offers to support local businesses and economic development, Tannehill said.
The trip, which is scheduled for early April, is part of a deliberate effort by SCVEDC officials to increase foreign investment in Santa Clarita, allowing them to serve as a single point of contact for companies interested in establishing operations in the U.S., according to the news release.
“We can help them understand the U.S. system and connect them with the resources and experts they need to start their business here,” Schroeder said.
