Congratulations to Chuck Strong and the SRBQ, who won the SCV Blues Society Battle of the Bands last weekend at the Sagebrush Cantina. Chuck and the guys will represent the SCV Blues Society at the 2015 International Blues Challenge battle of the bands in Memphis.
Friday night, the Helen Wheels Band rocks Town Center Drive as the Valencia Wine Co. celebrates its 12th anniversary. Bandleader Helen LaPrairie is the lead singer, and Lynn Coulter, who has backed up several guests on SCVTV’s “House Blend” show, will be on drums and vocals Friday evening. PapaFish
Over the hill in West Hollywood Friday night, SCV rock ’n’ reggae favorites PapaFish get skankin’ at the House of Blues on Sunset. The “House Blend” stars are celebrating lead singer Nancy Rae’s birthday. Tickets are just $15 if you get them through the band, or $19 at the show. Doors open at 7 p.m. and PapaFish takes the stage at 8 p.m. sharp. You’ll also get to see The Steppas, The Supervillains, and Through the Roots Friday night. After a more than a two-year wait, the Free to Be Me Music Festival will make its much-anticipated debut at the Canyon Country Community Center, located at 18410 Sierra Highway, on Sunday, June 12, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.
"Something Rotten: The Broadway Musical (Rated PG) opens this weekend at Canyon Theatre Guild in Old Town Newhall. Opening night is Saturday May 14 at 8 p.m. with a free champagne and wine reception for ticket holders.
