WASHINGTON, DC – Congresswoman Katie Hill, (D-Agua Dulce) announced Tuesday that CA-25 will be participating in the Congressional Art Competition, an annual nationwide competition for high schoolers sponsored by the members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

California’s 25th congressional district covers part of northern Los Angeles County and part of eastern Ventura County. It includes the cities of Santa Clarita, Simi Valley, Palmdale, Lancaster, and the northern part of the San Fernando Valley.

Hill is welcoming high school students to submit their artwork to be celebrated by the community, with one piece advancing forward to be prominently displayed in the U.S. Capitol.

“Our community is full of forward-thinking young artists who look at society with new eyes and new creativity. I am so proud to be able to support them by sharing their vision and showcasing their talents,” Hill said. “I look forward to seeing the incredible submissions and sharing our winner’s work with the country when it hangs in the halls of the Capitol.”

Since its creation in 1982, over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition. The first place winner (and one parent/guardian) in each Congressional District is provided with complimentary airfare to Washington, D.C. to see his or her art displayed in the Capitol Building during an unveiling ceremony.

The competition is open to high school students that attend public or private schools, or are homeschooled. Students must reside in California’s 25th Congressional District to be eligible and have until April 22, 2019 at 12 PM PST to submit their work.

The winners will be announced on April 24, on KHTS AM-1220 at a 3:30 p.m. PST live event hosted by FastFrame Valencia, located at 24204 Valencia Blvd. Representative Hill will be in attendance.

All artwork must be submitted to a designated drop-off location. Each piece of artwork must be submitted with a Student Release form. Drop off locations and release forms can be found on Representative Hill’s website.
