Valencia’s Ryan Gorman was selected as one of the All-CIF Southern Section Northern Division defensive players of the year. Westlake defensive end Justin Solis shared the defensive player of the year award with Gorman.

Gorman led Valencia with 96 tackles, had three pass deflections and an interception in his senior season.

Canyon had a trio of players on the All-CIF Northern Division offensive team. Quarterback Jonathan Jerozal, receiver Drew Wolitarsky and offensive lineman Juan Rodriguez were selected.

Valencia defensive lineman Billy Shipman, Saugus defensive lineman Denley Rodriguez and Hart defensive back Tim White were selected to the Northern Division defensive team.

In high school basketball, the Saugus boys needed double overtime to knock off Valencia, 83-81. Jeremy Gatewood hit a 3-pointer with 6.2 seconds left in the game to beat Valencia. He scoered 34 points in the game.

The Canyon boys won their 11th game in a row, 56-52, over West Ranch. Canyon is 3-0 and all alone in first place in the Foothill League standings.

The Hart boys knocked off Golden Valley, 91-60.

The Trinity boys beat Concordia West, 61-40.

The Golden Valley girls won their first Foothill League game in three years, 47-35, over Hart.

The Saugus girls beat Valencia, 50-28, behind 27 points from Megan Dawe.

The Canyon girls beat West Ranch, 57-39.

In high school soccer, the Santa Clarita Christian girls soccer shut out Trinity, 6-0, as six different players scored for the Cardinals.

Colette Blake and Tiffany Shroyer each scored a goal and had two assists. Brianna Reade, Megan Gallagher, Lauren Gallagher and Susannah Gwinn scored a goal apiece for Santa Clarita Christian.

The Hart girls beat Golden Valley, 3-1.

The West Ranch and Canyon girls tied, 1-1.

The Hart boys shut out Golden Valley 5-0. Nico Ferrero scored two goals.

The Canyon and West Ranch boys played to a 2-2 draw.

In college basketball, The Master’s College men beat Westmont, 64-60. Anthony Cammon led The Master’s College, ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, with 17 points.

The Master’s College women nearly pulled the upset over No. 4 Westmont, losing by two points, 56-54. Lena Rivera recorded a double double for The Master’s College with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

In hockey, the Kings beat the Vancouver Canucks, 3-2 in a shootout. Mike Richards scored the game-winner in the shootout for the Kings.

The Kings are back on the ice against the Calgary Flames on Thursday night at Staples Center.
