coclogoProviding students an opportunity to ‘test drive’ the career or job industry of their choice, this fall College of the Canyons will host its fourth annual College2Career Day event at the Valencia campus.

Featuring a variety of hands-on activities and interactive demonstrations, the event will also provide both students and parents with valuable information about how the college can help them to get on the path to career success.

“College2Career Day is all about helping students make a connection between their education and a future career path,” said Audrey Green, COC associate vice president of academic affairs. “At the event students of all ages will have the opportunity to explore potential academic and career choices, connect with college instructors and talk with industry professionals who will be able to share what it’s really like in a given career field.”

The College of the Canyons College2Career Day will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, in the Dr. Dianne G. Van Hook University Center, located on the college’s Valencia campus (University Center Drive entrance).

Throughout the day COC faculty members and representatives from the college’s various academic and career technical education (CTE) programs and other industry professionals, will be on hand to answer questions and help students explore the diverse types of careers that a college education can help prepare them for.

“In order to make the best possible decision about their future, students and parents should both be fully informed about the type of training and education associated with a particular career choice,” added Green.

Attendees looking to get a jumpstart on the process of becoming a COC student will also be able to attend one of several information workshops taking place throughout the day.

Information about the college’s lineup of fall semester ‘late start’ classes will also be available.

More than 20 college departments are currently scheduled to participate in the event including: sports medicine, early childhood education, culinary arts, emergency medical technician (EMT), photography, gerontology/Skills for Healthy Aging Resources and Programs (SHARP), recreation management, hotel & restaurant management, interior design, paralegal, physics, astronomy, engineering, manufacturing, business, land surveying, construction management, nursing, graphic & multimedia design, computer networking, electronic systems technology .

In addition, representatives from the University Center’s partner institutions will also be on hand to discuss the multitude of bachelor’s, master’s and professional credential programs currently being offered right here at College of the Canyons.
