Award-winning watercolor artist Louisa McHugh will be featured at the city of Santa Clarita’s next “New Heights” event for local artists at The Centre on Wednesday, September 20, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
In her presentation, titled “Watercolor – Discussion and Demonstration,” McHugh will discuss her creative process, workflow, how to get started in watercolor and current trends in the medium.
McHugh will also demonstrate watercolor tips that will benefit both beginners and advanced artists.
“Watercolor has always been my passion and it is my mission to bring to it the same level of prestige that other mediums are esteemed with,” McHugh said.
“My work is often figurative, with several layers of transparent washes that roll over each other, causing the subject to drift in and out of focus. I take inspiration from the ordinary and find beauty in unconventional themes,” she said.
McHugh manages the National Watercolor Society Gallery in San Pedro and is an instructor at the Palos Verdes Art Center and Destination Art in Torrance. A graduate of Columbia College with a degree in cinematography, she later discovered her passion for watercolor and studied the medium at Otis College of Art and Design.
The Centre is located at 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, Santa Clarita 91350.
New Heights is proudly presented by the Santa Clarita City Council and the Santa Clarita Arts Commission. The panel discussion series is designed to assist artists, performers and arts organization representatives in expanding their knowledge and learning valuable tools to increase their ability to be successful More information is available at SantaClaritaArts.com.
