Extraordinary always inspires, and Single Mothers Outreach exists to inspire women to be extraordinary parents. We have heard thousands of stories of parents, many who rise above poverty, domestic violence, disability, and dysfunction to make a meaningful life for themselves and their children.
Single parenting is extremely challenging – single parents need role models to keep them focused on the goal of raising successful, well-adjusted children. Empowering HeArts provides the platform for this inspiration.
This year, Single Mothers Outreach will honor five women who set the standard – whose unique and powerful contributions define “extraordinary” in their field, and have life-changing impact in their communities; and seeks five artists who will be paired with an honoree to creatively tell their stories in the medium of photography, painting or sculpture. A panel of industry experts will judge artists and the grand-prize winner will be announced at the Fifth Annual Empowering HeArts Gala Event celebrating women, art and community at College of the Canyons on November 1, 2014. The collection of artists’ work will be featured in a commemorative book describing each woman’s story, and on semi-permanent display locally after the event.
All proceeds from sponsorships, tickets sales and product sales will benefit the programs and services of Single Mothers Outreach, helping the organization to continue its mission organized around empowering single parents toward self-sufficiency.
For more information on the Empowering Hearts artist guidelines, and to submit an entry, visit http://singlemothersoutreach.org/artist-guidelines/. The deadline for artist applications is April 15, 2014.
About Single Mothers Outreach
Parenting is too important a responsibility to bear alone, yet all too often single mothers and fathers are forced to do just that. Because we believe that effective parenting leads to successful, well-adjusted children, Single Mothers Outreach scaffolds families facing sudden housing instability, income loss, emotional trauma, and social deterioration as the result of divorce, abandonment, or widowhood. With a mission to “empower single parents and their children by providing hope, support, and resources so that families can become self-sustaining and thrive,” Single Mothers Outreach (SMO) directly helps single parents find jobs, get educated, secure housing, stabilize their children’s emotional states, manage their finances, and help one another.
