SAN BERNARDINO – The JetHawks were unable to complete a sweep of the Inland Empire 66ers after they fell in the series finale, 3-2, on Thursday night at San Manuel Stadium.
Garrett Schilling (pictured above) threw six scoreless innings and the JetHawks (65-62, 31-28) held a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh before the 66ers (51-77, 25-34) rallied to take the lead.
Spencer Griffin began the seventh by reaching first on a Taylor Snyder error. Torrii Hunter Jr. followed with a single and Gleyvin Pineda bunted the runners up before Devin Davis brought them both home with a two-run single against reliever Moises Ceja (5-2).
Orlando Martinez added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth with a solo home run.
Both Lancaster runs came on Jimmy Herron solo home runs. His first put the JetHawks on the board against starter Cristopher Molina in the second inning. His second home run brought his club back within a run in the top of the ninth. It marked the first multi-home run game of his professional career.
Kyle Tyler (2-0) relieved Molina in the fifth inning and went on to close out the game. He allowed just one hit, the Herron home run, over 4.1 innings with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Ryan Vilade went 2-for-3 to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
Taylor Snyder (12 games) and Luis Castro (eight games) each went hitless to end their hit streaks, which did not help the JetHawks complete the three-game series sweep.
Here’s the box score.
The JetHawks return home to begin a four-game series with the Lake Elsinore Storm on Friday night. Left-hander Lucas Gilbreath will start the series-opener. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
