A pursuit of a vehicle stolen in Santa Paula on Monday led to a slow-speed chase through Santa Clarita and an arrest of the suspect near Sierra Highway and Placerita Canyon Road. Here is the breakdown from the Facebook page of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Around noon Monday, a deputy working in the area near The Old Road and Rye Canyon Road, located a stolen vehicle. The deputy attempted to conduct a felony traffic stop but the driver fled in the vehicle.
Deputies pursued the vehicle for several miles along The Old Road and into the shopping center on Constitution Avenue. Deputies followed the vehicle through the parking lot for several minutes.
Eventually the suspect went back onto the street where a spike strip was successfully deployed.
The suspect enterd the south bound I5 freeway at Lyons Avenue.
Units from the California Highway Patrol took over the pursuit and followed the vehicle all the way to the State Route 14 freeway at Placerita Canyon Road. The suspect exited the vehicle and ran across south bound lanes of traffic.
CHP Officers and Sheriff’s Deputies were able to take the suspect into custody near Sierra Highway and Placerita Canyon Road.
The vehicle was stolen out of the Santa Paula area. The suspect who is a 26-year-old male is also from the Santa Paula area.
