[KHTS] – The driver of a red sports vehicle reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed in Canyon Country Tuesday morning lost control of the vehicle and collided with a power pole, sending live wires across the roadway and leaving some residents without power, officials said.
Initial reports indicate the vehicle struck a power pole on Soledad Canyon Road just past the rock quarry east of the 14 freeway around 5:50 a.m., sending sparks from live wires across the roadway, said California Highway Patrol Officer John Lutz.
CHP officials received multiple calls regarding wires being down at the crash site and responded from the east side of Soledad Canyon Road to close the roadway in both directions.
Los Angeles County Fire Department officials arrived at the scene at 6:05 a.m. Seven poles were down at the crash site, Fire officials said.
A total of 161 Southern California Edison customers in the area lost power at approximately 5:46 a.m., with all but eight customers’ power fully restored by 8:50 a.m., an Edison official said.
“It was the result of a car hitting the pole on Soledad,” said Robert Villegas, a Southern California Edison spokesman.
One patient was transported to a local hospital by American Medical Response, a commercial ambulance service. The extent of the person’s injuries, if any, are unknown at this time, Fire officials said.
It is not currently known if speed was the cause of the crash, Lutz said.
Soledad Canyon Road was expected to be closed a minimum of six hours while Southern California Edison crews make repairs on poles and wires.
Power is expected to be returned to customers still affected by the outage around 11 a.m.
