The Lady Cougars managed to win two singles points but couldn’t find much else in a 7-2 home loss to first-place Santa Barbara City College on Thursday in Valencia.
COC (8-4, 8-2) played the match shorthanded with Celeste Hernandez and Seleste Sakato both sitting out.
Una Stanisavljevic continued her conference undefeated streak winning 6-4, 6-4 to improve to 10-0 on the season.
Nicole Villarta also scored for Canyons, coming from behind to find victory in her match 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
The loss halted COC’s win streak at five matches and dropped the Lady Cougars into third place in the Western State Conference standings. Canyons is two games behind SBCC (12-2, 10-0) and half a game back of second place Bakersfield College (12-1, 8-1).
Thursday’s match concluded the season series with SBCC. COC has four regular-season matches remaining on the schedule including two vs. Bakersfield and one more meeting vs. Glendale, the three-time defending conference champions.
Canyons will travel north to face Bakersfield at 2 p.m. on Friday in a match that was originally scheduled for Feb. 21, but had to be rescheduled due to weather.
