The California Gas Tax will take effect November 1, raising the price of gas by 12 cents per gallon, with the $52 billion it’s expected generate going to transportation projects, officials said Tuesday.

The proposal approved by legislators in April is set to close an anticipated budget gap by raising the gas tax and DMV registration fees.

Historically, road maintenance has been paid for by taxes on gasoline usage; however, the rise of alternative fuel vehicles created a funding shortage, according to lawmakers.

  1. Better be ebike rebates.

  2. Sue Albert Sue Albert says:

    We desperately need freeways repaired

  3. Good thing I left California! Gas is cheap here in Colorado

  4. Hey, we have endless Mexican babies to pay for, so cough up any money you had intended to spend on your own children and celebrate diversity!

    • John Haro John Haro says:

      1. There’s not just “Mexican” babies, it’s a huge amount of Guatemalan, Chinese, El Salvadorian, etc. Immigrants who are also illegal
      2. You have no idea how government works if you think we’re somehow paying for their babies
      3. California is the most diverse state in the country. You don’t like it, as your people like to say “GET OUT!”

    • 1) Chinese babies aren’t even close to the majority in CA on welfare and food stamps.

      2) One need not be an expert on government to understand what public schools, welfare, MediCal, MediCare, food stamps etc all are and where the money for those programs all comes from.

      3) CA is the most diverse state in the country, but did you know Texas is #2? Diversity does not require a nanny state, nor is a nanny state evident of any level of diversity.

    • John Haro John Haro says:

Matthew Martin 1. Welfare and food stamps aren’t given to illegal immigrants. Do you promote denying a US citizen their right to eat because of their race? Also, I brought up other races because I’m tired of people calling all Hispanic/Latinos Mexican. It’s disgustingly racist and typical of most of these people who are unaware.
      2. Of course no one needs to be an expert but the fact that he believes we are paying in its entirety for the lives of these “babies” is ignorant. Maybe read a credible article?
      3. I only brought this up because this guy somehow correlated rising gas prices to fund public transportation projects to citizens fully supporting “Mexican babies”

    • John Haro When we had our son a Tarzana hospital there were no rooms available and all the expecting women were shoved into one room without a word of English to be heard. Build the wall and make it tall!

    • Identity theft and document fraud is rampant amongst illegals, they almost all get handouts and government assistance. They also use up resources and infrastructure, without contributing to it. So… get more money for endless third-worlders from yes, all over south of the border (via Mexico) because no amount will ever be enough.

  5. D.j. Smetana D.j. Smetana says:

    Dirty rotten scoundrels they are.

  6. What happened to the other millions of road money the taxpayers have given Brown??

  7. So screwed! Diesel goes up 20 cents which means everything we buy will go up. Then this tax is tied to inflation so it will go up with the increased inflation it creates! What idiots voted for this when every other gas tax has been siphoned off into the general budget never to be seen again!

    • Lilia Ortiz Lilia Ortiz says:

Remember this when voting ….. Villaraigoza is running for governor; reason why Garcety dropped out… Not to split the democratic vote. Even though he claims for family reasons, then there is the statement of contemplating a run for presidency…. What about the family issue….?

    • Max Lang Max Lang says:

Newsome is going to crush Tony. More $$. That’s why Garcetti bailed.

  8. That’s why I bought a hybrid and maybe one day a Tesla.

  9. Nada Quinn Nada Quinn says:

Let’s see where the money goes this time. Oh wait, we won’t

  10. No one voted for this robbery!! Thank you to the Democrats in Sacramento!! Need to start replacing these crooks with Conservatives!!

  11. We have the highest sales tax, the highest income tax… so what were they waiting for!

  12. You get what you vote for Commie California. The gas tax also rises with inflation as it causes inflation so its an endless cycle of screwing us over

  13. Justin Baca Justin Baca says:

Has anyone studied history n looked up inflaction??? Weird how it is spelled wrong, but the owners of the us currency just drop huge shares of shares…?? What gold in the federal reserve.

  14. Justin Baca Justin Baca says:

Jennifer Baca Kathleen Baca let’s be woke together

  15. SCVLoves says:

Oh so you’re one of those people who are racist towards Hispanics yet are cheering for Yasiel Puig and the Dodgers. Funny how ignorant and cowardly some people are. Like someone else already stated above, if you don’t like California then just like you “folk” love to say,”GET OUT”.

  16. .12 cents a gallon is a ton of money. I just can not imagine where all of our CA tax money goes. And the .10 on plastic bottles. Still can’t figure that one out

  17. I’m leaving this place, it’s gonna be bombed out looking like Detroit very soon……You can have it!

  18. Robert Mehl Robert Mehl says:

None of the money is going to fix our roads. Its going to pay for the lawyers of the illegals because California is a sanctified state. Look at who Obama and the Democrats left in our country with the asshole in New York. By the way the Democrats want to ban rental trucks now
