Los Angeles County supervisors approved a final map Tuesday for an 8.83-acre subdivision of 76 condominiums off of Copper Hill Drive in north Valencia.

“All of the street improvements — streets, curbs and gutter — are already installed, said Kerjon Lee, public affairs manager for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works. “Utilities leading to each of the properties (have also been installed).”

Three model units have already been built, he added. The other 73 have not been built yet.

The final map has been reviewed by the Department of Public Works for mathematical accuracy, survey analysis, title information, and for compliance with local ordinances and the State Subdivision Map Act, according to the agenda item.

“Now,  those streets delineated are officially part of the county record,” Lee said.

The condos have been in the works for nearly 15 years. Supervisors certified the EIR for The Newhall Land and Farming Co.’s West Creek development in 2000; construction got under way in 2005.

  1. Where does the water come from? Make up your minds. We either have a water shortage or we don’t.

  2. Max Young Max Young says:

Exactly! ⬇️ utterly ridiculous! Also, correct your information, Westcreek is in Valencia not Saugus.

  3. I agree with Harold, Mike A. where are we getting the water for this. Will all these new developments pay more for water than the current citizens of SCV. This is so stupid, maybe we need to sue the county for misappropriation of funds

  4. Mike Ostrom Mike Ostrom says:

If I remember right, years ago when all these communities became the City Santa Clarita. One of the goals was limited and smart growth. Ha!!!

  5. Lisa Statti Lisa Statti says:

Copper Hill is in Saugus not Valencia has been for over 40 years… but if you want to technical it is ALL Santa Clarita. .. Also I agree why do we keep building if we have no water????

  6. Keith Dill Keith Dill says:

Wow! Just keep packin them in!! What ah joke. No water no schools. More people! Just what we need.

  7. No water, governor inviting more illegals, more housing developments. Good strong leadership.

  8. Why more houses, condos, and apartments. Is this town really desperate for property tax and melaroos? We moved to Santa Clarita in 1980 to avoid the suburban sprawl. If we wanted to be like the OC, we would have moved there.

  9. We all need to start going to the city meetings this is b.s!

  10. Horrible ! So now what? 45 kids per class and more minimum days? Smh

Where is the water going to come to support all this building?

This development is in the unincorporated area of Los Angeles County. Santa Clarita has no control of developments outside city limits.

  21. SCV home prices have not recovered their value as have homes in other parts of L.A. County. Is it because Newhall Land keeps building more?

  25. It’s in the city of santa Clarita. Try and save water so our new neighbors will pay big bucks for those and high taxes and shop at the mall. Then pray for rain and vote in more democrats so they do nothing about the drought.

  27. Jen Phelps Jen Phelps says:

West Creek Academy – the elementary school for this area, is already at max capacity and anticipates over-crowding next year. There are already new homes going up by the dozen in this area. The planning estimates for this community do not match the actual growth. The people moving in will expect (and pay) to go to these schools. We don’t have the resources, funding, or even rights as they were negotiated away with the home owners associations and builders, to create space to accommodate more students. This is a giant #FAIL

  28. Because this valley isnt crowded enough?

  29. What the hell is wrong with you people? Conserve water, conserve electricity and your building more living spaces. Friggin idiots.

  30. Wendy Reed Wendy Reed says:

Join SCOPE. They fight sprawl very effectively.

  31. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD…STOP BUILDING.

  32. Emily Ball says:

I look forward to the new communities coming to Valencia. So many people want to buy and inventory is so low. The market is on fire and shows no sign of leveling off. I also like the demographic that is purchasing out here. Hillbillies, please move to Lake Los Angeles.

  33. Stop building homes when we have no water to spare or freeways that are already jammed. Stop will ya

  34. Great! Plenty of water and room on the road for them.

  35. This is insane!! These people are idiots!

  36. This is insane!! These people are idiots!

  37. Cathy says:

If these type of water decisions are being made, after the Governor declared a sever drought in CA. Then pardon me..I’m keeping my thirsty lawn and I’m not going to take a shorter shower. Not until somebody actually proves to me there is a water shortage, by making decisions NOT to build on a government level. There has to be verifiable water. NOT the kind of water that only shows up on paper.

    • SCVNews.com says:

The development approval for this project was in 2000, before we were in the current drought. The stuff that’s going on now is just technical processing of a project that was approved 15 years ago.

  38. Debbie Emma Debbie Emma says:

    Enough is enough Santa Clarita!!

  39. Either way, we’re getting stuck with more houses , traffic and not enough roads, parks or water. Same crap, different year.

  40. mike says:

Much of our water comes from the delta. Deliveries of much of this water was limited due to environmentalists saying taking the water endangered the delta and a little fish there.

  41. Cathy Lahey Cathy Lahey says:

It’s still a stupid idea. county vs City….already too much traffic, it’s horrible.

  42. Regardless of water, the SCV’s population is projected to double again in the next 25 years.

  43. Debbie Emma Debbie Emma says:

This city needs to know when to stop building. Wish it was like it was back in 1973, when I moved here.

  44. Chris Markarian says:

New houses are way more water efficient than older homes. We should start berating people who live in houses built before 2000 for being water wasters. Kick them out and tear them down.Keep building new water efficient houses.

    • jimvs says:

Such an evolved view of things, Chris. You seem like the kind of person who drops in and has a brilliant idea of how to make life better for everyone.

Starting with you. In honor of your enlightened outlook, I propose that all new renters and homeowners in the SCV pay an extra fee to help us poor ORIGINAL homeowners and renters become more water efficient. After all, we had plenty of water until you showed up.

  45. jimvs says:

Ooh, look at all the people who suddenly discovered there is over-building going on in the SCV!

Since before Ed Davis became the local State Senator, this valley has been the overflow from the SFV. There is a reason so many City of Los Angeles employees live here (and in Simi Valley, aka Land of the LAPD). That is because they could buy bigger homes for less money. The trade-off was the longer commute to work.

There may have been a few other demographic issues at work, but they have been settled (mostly) by the melting-pot effect.

The majority of income generated for SVC residents still comes from the City to the south.

The majority of the residents of the SCV don’t worry about little things like over-building. The majority of the residents of the City of Santa Clarita don’t even think about what the City government does. They think even less about what Mike Antonovich, The Prince of the Fifth District of Los Angeles County (and your Mayor of LA County) does when the big money developers come calling.

And so you (and we) are stuck with this, and so much more.

You CAN do something about it. But you can’t do much about the approvals that are already in the machine. Drought or no drought, the water companies have little choice but to serve new developments because the approvals are historically embedded in City and County law/agreements.

If you care, if it’s important to you, it is time to raise hell with the City and County representatives that are determining your future safety, health, and lively-hood.

Oh, by the way, remember that real estate brokers and agents make their money off of your displeasure with the way things are going. Unless, of course you are planning on selling in the next year or so.

  46. chris.markarian says:

jimvs, I wasn’t being serious. I was just trying to point out that ridiculousness of some of the posts on here.

    • jimvs says:

      Chris,

I actually posted my rant before I saw your post. My reply came a while after that.

It seems I missed your intentions.

Guess I’d better fine tune my sarcasmometer. I have it set at both RARE and CHUNKY based on the usual posts. Good thing I’ve got a 30″ prybar next to the combompulator for when a little open-mindedness on my part is necessary.

Keep Posting! Our Keepers may not pay much attention at first, but the increasing noise level will at least make them nervous.
