1934 - Bouquet Canyon Reservoir, replacement for ill-fated St. Francis Dam & reservoir, begins to fill with water [story]
Bouquet Reservoir

The County Board of Supervisors is expected to take the necessary steps Tuesday for the future Castaic High School to be served by the Newhall County Water District instead of County Water Works District 36.

The 84-acre school site on Romero Canyon Road near Canyon Hill Road lies within the jurisdiction of county Water Works District 36, the municipal water purveyor for Val Verde. But District 36 has no water facilities near the high school property.

The closest water hookup is in Castaic, and that area is served by the Newhall County Water District.

The supervisors will deal with details of detaching the 84 acres from District 36’s boundaries Tuesday and approve the tax adjustments that go along with the move.

The cost to the William S. Hart Union High School District of hooking up the future high school to NCWD will be significantly less than the cost of bringing water from District 36 to the site, according to a county staff report.

Water Works District touches the Castaic High School property immediately north of Barringer Rd. It seems it would be cheaper to hook up with them instead of running services from further away.

Sorry, it should have read ‘Water Works District 36 touches the Castaic High School property, etc.

Today (well, until today), the Castaic High School site is within the District 36 boundaries. But there’s no District 36 pipe anywhere near the high school site, is there? The assertion is, the NCWD pipe in Castaic (from which they’ve been getting water via they hydrant) is much closer than any District 36 pipe.
