[SUSD] – Saugus Union School District is pleased to report the performance levels of our students on this first California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress.
Despite network difficulties during the administration of the tests, yet 98.8 percent of our students were able to access and complete the tests. Our Measure EE bonds are funding an upgrade of our network at all sites this Fall, and our Local Control Accountability Plan is providing more Chromebooks for student practice of the technology skills needed to demonstrate what they know and can do.
Because this is a new test on new standards, these scores cannot be compared to previous years’ tests. We are closely analyzing the data to inform our ongoing instruction. Our strongest performance in Mathematics was in Communicating Reasoning and our strongest performance in Language Arts was for Listening: demonstrating effective communication skills. This validates our focus on daily language blocks to address the new Speaking and Listening standards.
In additions to Language Arts and Math, our 5th grade students continue to take the paper and pencil Science test. This year 82% percent of our students performed at the Proficient and Advanced Levels. This represents an increase of 8% over the past two years.
We received individual student scores yesterday and we will be sending them home to parents shortly. They will have an opportunity to review them at our parent/teacher Goal Setting Conferences at the end of September.
We are proud of our teachers and students for their diligence, their perseverance, and their performance.
