The Santa Clarita Public Library is offering free workshops at the Valencia Library throughout the month of March to help prepare high school students and their parents for college. Workshops cover a range of information including college preparation, how to apply, and standardized testing.

On Saturday, March 10, from 2 to 4 p.m., career coach Jamie Beck will offer strategies for parents and students on succeeding in high school, career exploration, and self-empowerment in a motivational discussion titled, Being Deliberate & Making High School Count.

On Monday, March 12, 2012, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., college application specialist Peggy Stabile will host College 101: the Search Begins.  The workshop provides an overview of the California State University and University of California school systems, application requirements, as well as the pros and cons of private versus public higher education.  Drawing from her experiences as a college counselor, Stabile will help navigate high school students and their parents through the complex university application system.

On Monday, March 19, 2012, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m., Kaplan, the nationwide testing center, will host ACT vs. SAT: What Test Should I Take. This introductory workshop will help students distinguish between the SAT and ACT, and how to best prepare for each type of test.
