5:04 p.m. Update from City of Santa Clarita:
A Valencia Water Company water main began leaking this morning on McBean Parkway between Decoro Drive and Newhall Ranch Road.
Thousands of gallons of water spilled across the southbound lanes of McBean resulting in damage to the roadway and the closure of all southbound lanes.
Valencia Water Company and their contractors continue to work to repair the broken water line, as well as complete the necessary repaving on the 500 feet of asphalt which was damaged.
All of the repairs are estimated to be completed before the end of day Thursday. Once all work has been completed the roadway will be open to southbound traffic, northbound lanes of McBean have not been affected.
In the meantime, residents are encouraged to avoid the area and use alternate routes.
Safety officials caution drivers to never drive through standing water, as it is impossible to know if the ground is stable underneath.
