Saugus graduate Abbey Weitzeil finished 7th in the Women’s 100 freestyle event during the Rio Olympics on Thursday.
Fellow American Simone Manual found the podium, tying for the goal medal with Canadian Penny Oleksiak.
Weitzeil swam a 53.30, a .07 second improvement off of her semifinal time, but was six tenths off the pace set by Manual and Oleksiak.
Weitzeil has already won a silver medal as apart of the Women’s 4×100 meter freestyle relay. She will swim in the 50 meter freestyle prelims on Friday.
Hart grad Anthony Ervin swam in the Men’s 50 freestyle on Thursday, qualifying for the finals with a tie for the fastest time in the semis of 21.46 seconds.
Ervin has already won a gold medal as apart of the Men’s 4×100 meter freestyle relay after swimming in the prelims of the event for the Americans.
