SACRAMENTO – California Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, was elected Monday by his colleagues to the five-member Senate Rules Committee, considered the most influential assignment in the Senate.
The entire Senate unanimously confirmed Wilk’s election.
The Rules Committee is responsible for reviewing and approving or rejecting hundreds of key gubernatorial appointments before they are voted on by the full Senate.
The committee also has jurisdiction over proposed amendments and rules that govern the State Senate as well as all other matters relating to the business of the Legislature.
The committee is chaired by Senate President Pro Tempore Toni Atkins. Wilk will be joining Senators Bill Monning, Anthony Cannella and Richard Roth as a member of the Committee.
“It is an honor to be elected by my colleagues to serve in this position for the Senate,” Wilk said.
“I am very appreciative of Senate Pro Tempore Atkins for the appointment and look forward to working with her on the Committee. As a member of the Rules Committee, I am committed to fully examining gubernatorial appointments, working to ensure the Senate operates efficiently and transparently, as well as assisting my colleagues as they navigate the legislative process.”
Wilk was unanimously elected to the Rules Committee by the full Senate. Serving as one of two Republicans on the committee, Wilk will be replacing fellow Republican Senator Tom Berryhill.
“Senator Berryhill has done a wonderful job on Rules Committee so I am especially grateful to my colleagues for their confidence in me and look forward to working with them in this new capacity,” Wilk said.
Wilk represents the 21st Senate District which includes the Antelope, Santa Clarita and Victor valleys. He was first elected to the State Assembly in 2012 and elected to the Senate in 2016. Click here for Wilk’s bio.

I am very glad that you were elected to this important position in the Senate. We the people need some common sense in Sacramento.
