Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested a woman on animal cruelty charges after she allegedly left her dog in a hot car while she was shopping in Canyon Country on Tuesday, according to a post on the station’s social media.

“This is Deputy Garcia,” the arresting officer said in a video clip posted on Facebook. “There is a dog inside a vehicle. It’s over 90 degrees outside. All windows are up. I’m going to have to break the window.”

Here’s the rest of the story:

“A deputy rescued a pup in distress in a Canyon Country Walmart parking lot around 5:45 p.m. after an observant citizen called the station, alerting dispatchers to the situation.

“The dog had reportedly been in the hot car for a while.

“The owner, a 43-year-old woman, was arrested on animal cruelty charges.

“LA Animal Care and Control officers came and picked up the dog to transport it to a vet to get checked out.

“Please DO NOT leave pets or children in a hot car.

“If the temperature is 90 degrees outside, the inside of a car can heat up to 130 degrees in less than 30 minutes — heat kills.”

  4. Moron! Seriously does she live under a rock and not see the news! Or have common sense! Use some brain cells people!
    #peoplesuck, #doglover

  5. I think she should be put in a hot car on a 90° day with all the windows rolled up and see how she likes it!?

  6. Not trying to argue but at 4:45 my thermostat in the car said it was 84. It was 82 at around 5:15. Too hot though for humans or pets in an enclosed vehicle.

  7. When ever I see a animal or child inside a car when it’s hot first I notify the store second step break window plus leaving a child in car she could get kidnapped

  8. Janet Gibson says:

Definately will break a window if I see a dog in a hot car. Leaving dogs in hot cars and walking them on hot pavement makes me crazy!!! Grrrr….

  9. Ugh… what is wrong with people. Makes me so angry.

  10. Really pisses me off!
    You MORON!

  11. Can we lock her in a hot car?

  12. Clarice L Griffith says:

Thank you to the person who called the police, & thank you officer for breaking the window & rescuing the dog.
What is wrong with people who take their dogs out in the heat, lock them in the car with windows up?! You can fix STUPID! Before the arrest, she needed to be sitting in the car for 10 minutes! OMG, they live among us!

  13. nahte05 says:

I am curious though, last year there was a man at Costco that left his dog in a Mercedes for more than 30 mins. Someone called the police and they came to save the dog by breaking a window. The man was mad and yelling at officers, he did not get arrested. Is there some new law that passed that makes animal cruelty an offense you can arrest someone for in 2018?

  14. ]Lupe v. says:

I hope the poop doggie was not given back to this woman, she already proved she not capable to take care of the doggie.

  15. Nadiya Littlewarrior says:

How anyone can do this to a pet is beyond me.

  16. Bunny Devi says:

Not right to treat an animal like that. Wait, im eating chicken wings and cow steak right now. Yummy
