Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies arrested a woman in a Stevenson Ranch parking lot after she allegedly beat one of several dogs in her van on Monday night.

“There was a call for service at approximately 10:50 p.m., when someone saw her abusing animals,” Sgt. Caron, watch commander at the SCV Sheriff’s Station, said Wednesday afternoon.

“Deputies went up there and during their investigation saw some injuries, and arrested her for animal abuse,” he said.

The woman was identified as Gertrude Williamson, 67, a resident of Oregon.

“Animal Control responded and took possession of the animals,” he said, referring to the county Animal Care & Control shelter in Castaic.

“Her arrest charge was Section 597(b) of the Penal Code,” he said, which is cruelty to an animal, a felony.

Caron said Williamson was charged with one count, and her bail was set at $20,000.
