1873 - Vasquez gang raids Kingston in (now) Kings County; ties up townspeople, makes off with $2,500 in cash and jewels [story]
Kingston

fataltc[KHTS] – Two children and a man were killed in an Interstate 5 traffic crash in the early morning hours Monday, CHP officials said.

A 1997 Honda Accord driven by an unidentified man was heading southbound on I-5, and for unknown reasons, his car slammed into a truck parked at a designated brake check on I-5, near Templin Highway around 1 a.m., according to a CHP news release.

The 2006 Freightliner towing a 2003 utility semi trailer was inside the brake check area at the east curb of the brake check, with the driver asleep in the sleeper berth.

“For unknown reasons the driver of the Honda Accord veered left as it approached the big rig and struck the rear of the big rig prior to any evasive action by the driver,” according to a CHP news release.

Emergency response teams received the call at 1:17 a.m. and officials were on scene by 1:30 a.m., according to Fire Department Inspector Flores.

The big-rig driver was uninjured in the crash.

The Honda was wedged underneath the big rig upon arrival of emergency personnel. The driver, right front passenger, which was a male child, and a left rear passenger, a female child, were all declared dead at the scene.

The age and identification of the victims were not immediately available.

The entrance to the Whitaker Brake Check was closed for approximately six hours while the crash was investigated.

Parties have not yet been identified because the Los Angeles County Coroner has not yet notified the deceased’s next of kin.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff Department’s Santa Clarita Station is now handling the investigation, according to a CHP report.

  4. Scv TV you guys make me so mad. A little over a year ago my best friends dad died in a horrible way and you released his name and where he lives with out their consent please ask families that have lost their loved ones if it is okay before you say who and how old they were. Give them that respect at least.

    • What? We don’t “release” information. We repeat information after it has already been released publicly by the CHP or Sheriff or Coroner. Hope you complained to the people (CHP or Sheriff or Coroner) who released the information? Otherwise they won’t know they shouldn’t have done so.

Murder? Suicide? Texting? Isn’t it a little quick to jump to conclusions? It was just after 1 in the morning. The most likely reason for this tragic event is that the driver fell asleep.

    • Kathy Jelsvik says:

I would like to ask everyone please for our family & my niece not to post negative things. & we didn’t want the children’s names released yet. & that wasnt your place to do. & yes the dad killed them.
