On Monday, Supervisor Antonovich honored Santa Clarita Valley volunteers Flo Lawrence and Frank Louis Willard, and the Natural History Museum honored local, Nadiya Littlewarrior at Los Angeles County’s 31st Annual Volunteer of the Year Awards.

Flo Lawrence

Flo Lawrence has been a member of the Friends of Castaic Lake since 2006 and has dedicated countless hours of service to events including the Sheriff’s Polar Plunge, CAST for Kids, Junior Lifeguard graduation, The Love Ride, and Family Fun Fishing Day.  Lawrence is also an active member of the Castaic Lions Club and the current president of the Castaic Area Town Council.  Flo was voted the 2008 “Castaic Man of the Year,” and is a past recipient of the Lions Club’s “Lion of the Year” award.

Frank Louis Willard was Supervisor Antonovich’s youth honoree for his more than 800 hours of service over the past four years at the SCV Senior Center.  Frank became an integral part of the kitchen team, serving more than 500 meals daily and delivering meals to homebound seniors.  Frank also initiated fundraisers to purchase Wii and pool equipment for the seniors’ recreation time and hosted a clothing drive that brought over 200 jackets and winter clothes for the elderly.

Nadiya Littlewarrior

Nadiya Littlewarrior was honored by the Natural History Museum for her tireless work in coordinating the annual Hart of the West Native American Pow Wow – a revered SCV tradition that draws hundreds of Native American dancers, drummers, craft vendors and visitors from across the country.  She also serves on the Friends of Hart Park Board of Directors and as an assistant at both park and museum special events.  Nadiya has contributed over 1,250 hours of volunteer service.

Established in 1981 by Supervisor Antonovich, Los Angeles County has hosted its Volunteer Program to recognize the vital contributions of volunteers who have played a key role in enriching the lives of Los Angeles County residents.  This year’s theme, “Volunteers: Soar Like An Eagle,” underscored the County’s diverse volunteers who range in age from 14 to 94.  In 2012, more than 51,000 volunteers donated over 2.7 million hours, saving taxpayers an estimated $57 million.
