There were 6 part one crimes reported in the Newhall area last week: 1 assault, 2 thefts, 2 vehicle burglaries, and 1 stolen vehicle.

Jewelry and cash were stolen from a residence in the 25000 block of Peachland Avenue on Wednesday the 18th. The most likely suspect is a family member who was staying at the location for a short period of time. Opportunity and temptation can sometimes lead to theft, keep your valuables and important personal items safe and secure, even if you think it “can’t happen to me.”

Two vehicles had windows smashed and personal items were taken Thursday morning the 19th , from the 23600 block of Newhall Avenue. The thefts occurred between 7:35am and 8:05am, but there were no witnesses (ref 12893, 12892). Be aware of your surroundings, report suspicious behavior to Santa Clarita Sheriff’s station (661)255-1121. If it’s an emergency or you witness a crime occurring, call 911.

A domestic violence incident occurred early Sunday morning the 22nd in the 20900 block of Costa Brava. A child was a witness to the incident. Children sometimes witness violent or abusive incidents or they are victims of unreported violence or abuse. If a child tells you he or she has been the victim of violence or abuse report it to the Sheriff’s station or call the DCFS Hotline at (800)540-4000. You may remain anonymous.

A 1995, red, 2-door, “Honda” civic was stolen from the 24900 block of Newhall Avenue sometime late Friday night the 20th or early Saturday morning the 21st. Older vehicles are not as well equipped with anti-theft equipment as newer models are. If you own an older model vehicle consider installing an alarm system or using a steering wheel locking device. Most criminals will pass up a vehicle if it has alarms or devices to help prevent theft.

There were a couple of notable arrests in the Newhall area this week. Deputies from the Special Assignment Team (SAT) identified and arrested a local gang member on Friday the 20th who was responsible for the stabbing that took place on September 15th. On Saturday the 21st, patrol deputies tracked down an I pad that had been stolen from a car burglary in Canyon Country earlier that same day. They recovered the I pad and arrested a 36 year old male for possession of stolen property. On Friday the 20th ,deputies from the off road enforcement team arrested a 41 year old male in the river bed near Railroad Avenue and 12th Street for possession of narcotics.
