The Valencia football team is the only team from the Santa Clarita Valley still alive in the CIF playoffs.

The Vikings shut down the high-powered Quartz Hill offense and won, 42-7, in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section Northern Division playoffs.

Valencia quarterback Sean Murphy threw for 349 yards and four touchdowns after building a 28-7 lead.

The Vikings, seeded No. 2 in the playoffs, reached the semifinals for the third time in the past four years. They face third-seeded Palos Verdes on Friday night.

That same Palos Verdes team eliminated Hart, 49-28, at College of the Canyons. The Indians were down 28-0 in the first half.

Hart quarterback Connor Wingenroth guided Hart to two touchdown drives before the end of the first half, but it was too little, too late.

The Canyon football team ended its playoff run with a 30-14 loss to Atascadero.

The Cowboys were held to their lowest score of the season. Quarterback Cade Apsay had an unusually off night, throwing three interceptions and was 16-for-32 for 153 yards. He did throw a touchdown pass to Liam Cabrera in the fourth quarter.

Canyon receiver Drew Wolitarsky ended his high school football career with two state records. He set records for most catches in his career with  281 and for receiving yards with 5,147.

The Trinity football team lost, 46-28, to Joshua Springs in the semifinals of the CIF Southern Section Division II 8-man playoffs.

Trinity quarterback Dakota Prochnow threw three touchdown passes and was 11-for-18 for 222 yards in the loss.

In college football, the College of the Canyons lost the Southern California Bowl, 24-21, to Santa Ana College, and blew a seven-point, halftime lead.

COC took the early lead in the game, 7-0, in the first quarter, and was up 21-14 at halftime.

But Santa Ana scored 10 points in the second half to rally for the win.

COC quarterback Ryan Kasdorf threw two touchdown passes and rushed for a third in the loss. The Cougars finish the season with a 6-5 record.

The UCLA Bruins stunned crosstown rival USC, 38-28, snapping a five-game losing streak to the Trojans.

UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley scored two rushing touchdowns and threw a touchdown pass. UCLA won the Pac-12 South Division championship.
