[Newhall School District] – The Newhall School District will be opening its doors to all students, regardless of where they live, to provide parents with information about what the district has to offer during an open house later this month.
With a focus on high achievement, the District’s core priorities are science, technology and the arts, with State Distinguished School recognition for all its schools.
The district is hosting an informational open house for parents of prospective students, 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 20, at Oak Hills Elementary School, located at 26730 Old Rock Rd. in Stevenson Ranch. Attendees can RSVP by calling Wendy Stimson at (661) 291-4163.
“When we say there’s a place for your child here no matter where you live, we really do mean that,” District Superintendent Paul Cordeiro said. “We are proud to be the highest-achieving elementary school district in the Santa Clarita Valley, and are excited about being able to offer our excellent educational opportunities to all students.”
The district includes 10 elementary schools: McGrath, Meadows, Newhall, Oak Hills, Old Orchard, Peachland, Pico Canyon, Stevenson Ranch, Valencia Valley and Wiley Canyon. Additionally, the district offers preschool programs.
As the Santa Clarita Valley’s oldest school district, the Newhall School District traces its history to the late 1800s with the opening of the one-room Newhall School. Today, it is in the midst of $60 million in ongoing modernization projects on multiple school campuses. Among those projects has been the replacement of outdated portable structures with permanent classroom buildings, plus the revitalization of the Newhall Auditorium, a historic theater that, when complete, will be a top-of-the-line performing arts facility for both schools and the community.
“Our district focuses really come down to two main commitments: Encouraging excellence in student achievement and providing learning environments in which that is possible,” Cordeiro said. “The Newhall School District’s numerous accolades should tell parents that we are serious about those commitments and that our schools produce successful students.”
To RSVP for the Jan. 20 open house, contact Wendy Stimson at (661) 291-4163 or wstimson@newhall.k12.ca.us. For information on enrolling a student in the Newhall School District, contact Teri Satorhelyi at (661) 291-4182 or tsatorhelyi@newhall.k12.ca.us.

How is it possible for a child outside the district to put their child in NSD? Doesn’t that take funds from a neighboring school district? Isn’t that what they were upset at AEA for?
I thought the local school districts were supposed to work together in educating the students of SCV, not poach from other districts.
The target is pretty clearly the Acton-based charter schools that have been hurting our valley by poaching from our local school districts. It seems Newhall is trying to follow the SUSD West Creek Academy model.
