The Sulphur Springs Union School District and Tri Pointe Homes have entered into a purchase and sale agreement for a parcel of land located in the Skyline community in Santa Clarita.
After the land is transferred, the Sulphur Springs Union School District will construct a new elementary school on the site to serve the growing Skyline area in the district. The Sulphur Springs Union School District will add its 10th school to the district and the new school will help alleviate overcrowding and provide additional educational opportunities for Santa Clarita Valley students.
“The Governing Board is excited that we have reached an agreement with Tri Pointe Homes to acquire the land needed to advance our plans for a new school within the Skyline Ranch community, said Ken Chase, Sulphur Spring Board of Trustees president. “This significant achievement is the result of hard work and dedication not only from the board, but also from Superintendent Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi, and many others who have supported us through the process.”
Tom Grable, Division President of Tri Pointe Homes OC-LA, the developer Skyline, said the company is “excited to take this important step forward in fulfilling our commitment to providing the best possible educational environment for our students and families.”
“We are proud of our history with the Skyline community, including the homes that we have built and are continuing to build, as well as the opening of the Skyline Ranch Park earlier this year,” Grable said. “We are very happy to be a part of this stage in the development of a new elementary school in Skyline. We wish the Sulphur Springs Union School District well in building the new school once the land has been transferred and look forward to seeing the new school when it has been completed.”
The purchase and sale agreement outlines the terms of the land purchase, including the purchase price, closing date, and conditions precedent. The district will continue the process of securing necessary permits and approvals for the construction of the new school.
Sulphur Springs Superintendent Dr. Catherine Kawaguchi said the new elementary school will be built to house approximately 650 students.
“The new elementary school will represent the district’s commitment to providing exceptional educational opportunities for all our students,” Kawaguchi said. “The new school will be designed with the latest advancements in educational technology, creating a vibrant and engaging learning Canyon Springs Community School environment for all students.”
Kawaguchi shared that she will make it a priority to keep the Skyline community informed of next steps as the district prepares for the construction of the new elementary school.
