[KHTS] – Community members can prepare themselves and their families for an emergency by attending the Emergency Expo at the 2015 KHTS Home and Garden Show Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Valencia Hyatt parking lot.
The free event is a valuable resource that provides attendees with the information and tools needed to help enhance their safety and the safety of their loved ones during an emergency.
“The KHTS Emergency Expo is a wake-up call and a reminder for everyone so that they can go through their checklist and make sure they have the right supplies and the right plans for dealing with the next emergency we have here in Santa Clarita,” said Carl Goldman, co-owner of KHTS AM-1220.
During the time the Goldmans have owned the radio station, Santa Clarita has experienced numerous dangerous emergencies– including the Northridge earthquake, a tunnel explosion and several floods and major fires –making events like the Emergency Expo crucial.
“Santa Clarita is a poster child for disasters,” Goldman added. “The day is going to come when we have another disaster. The more prepared we are for a disaster, the better we’re going to be in dealing with it and also with our recovery.”
Sponsored by American Medical Response and Facey Medical Group, the Emergency Expo will feature displays, presentations and drills from Santa Clarita emergency response teams, as well as exhibitor booths centered around emergency preparedness, response and recovery.
Attendees can also climb aboard a fire truck, sit in a sheriff patrol car, meet Search and Rescue animals and watch a demonstration of the “jaws of life” by the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
In addition, the Fire Department’s “Shakey Quakey House,” which simulates an earthquake, will be available for children to experience throughout the day.
While the Emergency Expo will only take place on Saturday, April 25, many expo vendors will also be present on the second day of the KHTS Home and Garden Show, which will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 26, at the Valencia Hyatt.
KHTS AM-1220 has been hosting free home and garden shows for the Santa Clarita community for the last five years, drawing hundreds of residents annually to experience the family friendly two-day event.
