radio-2Self-Publishing Your Music

Wednesday, September 28

7:00 pm   Century Room, Santa Clarita City Hall

One of the most important developments with composers over the past 15years or so has been the ability to self-publish. With powerful personal computers, professional-level notation software, large-format printers, and the ability to reach musicians across the world through one’s own website, self-publishing has moved to a feasible option for many composers who do not become affiliated with a major publisher. The pros and cons of taking this route are numerous.  Panelists Dennis Poore and JC Dwyer will provide you with insight into the various paths that you can take, and explain how to navigate through the world of music publishing.

Dennis Poore

Dennis Poore hails from Texas but his music spans the globe. Early in his career Dennis met MTV star Julie Brown. Together they wrote CAUSE I’M A BLOND and BRAND NEW GIRL for the film EARTH GIRLS ARE EASY. He is currently her producer/arranger as well as co-writer for her  new album SMELL THE GLAMOUR which was released in June of 2011. He was nominated for a Clio Award for his Chase-Manhattan Bank jingle; plus he co-wrote the song “Two Of Them” for Disney’s SUITE LIFE OF ZACH AND CODY. In the music business Dennis worked as a professional manager for the publishing companies Larry Shayne Enterprises which published or administered such works as A CHORUS LINE, the catalogs of Livingston and Evans and THE PRODUCERS (film) to name a few. At  Len Freedman Music Publishing he worked as professional manager promoting the works of The Byrds, Joe Walsh and Donald Fagen plus many others. Dennis then became sample clearance and music supervision manager for Songwriter Services which was based in Santa Clarita. During this period Dennis worked on such classic hip-hop albums and recordings as THE CHRONIC (Dr. Dre), THE MARSHALL MATHERS LP (Emimen), WHOOP THERE IT IS (Tag Team), FRIDAY ( Ice Cube) and BOW DOWN (Westside Connection) to name a few.  For music licensing and supervision Dennis worked on such films as Y TU MAMA TAMBIEN, THE OTHER BROTHER, LAST MINUTE and WELCOME TO DEATH ROW. In 2001 Dennis formed his company Poorehouse Music Enterprises and Dennis Poore Music (ASCAP) which has worked on projects with Tony Hawk, Lil J and Xenon Pictures among others.
