This week’s Wendy’s of Santa Clarita Student Athlete of the Week is Patrick Selva from Saugus Boys Basketball. Patrick has a 4.0 GPA and scored 1790 on the SAT. A good education takes on broader meaning for Patrick.
“Being educated and knowing things about the world and not being, I guess, a dummy,” Patrick said. “Sometimes it’s hard with basketball. It takes so much time out of my day, but I’m just motivated to become more knowledgable about everything and just working hard and getting good grades.”
As for colleges, this senior has several Christian schools in mind, including Westmont and Pt. Loma Nazarene. But it’s Regis University in Denver that is No. 1 on his list.
“I like big cities, and I also wanted to branch out and not stay in California,” he said. “I’ve been to Colorado before and I’ve been to Denver and I loved it. So I thought that would be a cool place to go. I like the attractions there. I also have a close family friend who lives there. And I visited the school and I loved it. It’s a beautiful campus.”

Patrick has his eye set on studying business and hopes to one day get into sports management.
“My dream job is to be a GM of a professional sports team,” Patrick said. “I’m not sure which one yet, but hopefully work my way up to there.”
When it comes to academic motivation, Patrick is quick to name is parents.
“They just give me a lot of support and keep me on the right track and let me know school is important,” he said. “Even though basketball is important too, school does come first. They tell me that all the time. And they give me a lot of support for school, through the good times and the bad. If one time I struggle on a test or if I’m stressed out with how much work I have, my parents are always there giving me support, encouraging me. So they’ve been my biggest motivators.”
Congratulations to Patrick Selva of Saugus High School, the Wendy’s of Santa Clarita Student Athlete of the Week.
