[KHTS] – Santa Clarita city officials and owners of The Greens property in Valencia are planning to demolish buildings on the property, which have been sitting empty since 2009, officials said Tuesday.
“We’re exploring the demolition plan produced by the owners of the property,” said Tom Cole, director of community development for the city. “We anticipate the owners pulling the permit to start the demolition process by the end of the month.”
Since the closure, buildings on the property have been burned and sheriff’s deputies have had to monitor the location after reports of illicit drug activity and trespassing, officials said.
“The first order of business is to have the buildings removed because they are a public nuisance. Once the buildings are removed, the property owner in the future will not have to deal it,” Cole said. “The current owner will sell the property or start application process for a new development proposal. We have been dealing with issue and we have concerns about that critical area in our town center. We’re hoping (new development) will be a project in the future.”

Previous story:
The property near the intersection of Valencia Boulevard and McBean Parkway in an otherwise well-to-do part of town reportedly has been frequented by transients, runaways and drug activity, according to Sheriff’s Station officials.
The city red-tagged the property at 25601 McBean Parkway, for the second time last month, said Joe Montes, city attorney for Santa Clarita.
That effort was part of the procedure intended to declare the property a public nuisance, officials said.
“We’re starting an administrative nuisance abatement proceeding,” said Brian Hamblet of Burke Williams & Sorensen, who was working on behalf of the city to address concerns.
“First, we need to make sure (the property owner) has been served with a notice that the property has been identified as a public nuisance,” said. “We need to give the owners a reasonable period of time to take care of the problem on their own.”
If issues on the property aren’t addressed, further action could be taken to prompt code enforcement, officials said.
The Greens in Valencia opened in the early 1990s as an upscale putting course, restaurant and pro golf shop.
In 2006, the property was purchased for $6 million by New York-based Brisam Valencia LLC, which planned to raze the bar and erect a seven-story, 200-room Sheraton hotel on the site, according to SCVNews.com.
A fire burned the property for the first time in 2008, and the business has been closed since 2009, according to officials.
Brisam Valencia halted plans after the Santa Clarita Planning Commission granted approval for the project back in 2009.
In November 2011, a fire on the property prompted firefighters to put holes in the ceiling as part of their standard firefighter procedure.
However, after the fire was extinguished, residents repeatedly trespassed on the property near the Westfield Valencia Town Center by using the holes in the ceiling of the bar as an access point.
As a result of past reports and city concern, regular patrols are posted in the area to try and curtail any illicit activity on the property, said Deputy Regina Yost, zone leader for the Valencia area at the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
“It became known to deputies that the building had become a location used for illicit drug activity, and runaways and transients would frequent the area,” Yost said. “We would get calls from concerned citizens saying they had seen people trespassing on the property. That’s a concern for us because officials had already deemed the building uninhabitable.”

Why is it that I will really believe it when I see the wrecking ball at work. What excuse does the city have for not being more aggressive in getting this situation changed?

Still very sad…their Leader Ladder competitions were awesome
I wanted to buy it and turn it into a communal man cave. But with wives allowed. Just purely controlled by me.
I opened that place
OMG – remember tackle football on the greens with the drunk guys, or jumping over the lake for money… or any number of the insane times we had!! I remember supervising the building of that place. Those were good times
Should never have closed. It was a fun place to go for an afternoon of putting around and the best place to go in Valencia.
Build a Cheesecake Factory there!!!
They should build a Dave and Busters here.
Sonic Burger
Dave and Busters would be cool.
Why not just clean up the lot till someone wants that location. I don’t think a dirt field surrounded by a chain link fence will look much better.
Because the homeless have been using it add a crash pad. They’ve tried to clean it up several times. They just keep coming back
Cheesecake Factory!
Hopefully something good will go there. It’s a prime spot.
Too bad it was condemned. It was a neat layout
They should’ve done let that thing burn to the ground when ot caught fire then wouldn’t have taken so long for decision to demolish it
Its all good they’ll just put another 99¢ store there.
Or another Fricken CVS, Cuz we don’t have enough of those..smh
Hopefully someone will realize we need a large venue for live bands and dancing and other events
This is where Steve and I met. Makes me sad! :(
Portos
Gotta make room for Porto’s!
Miss this place! Good times!
Porto’s, Porto’s, Porto’s!!!!!!!
Starbucks!
Sheraton
Please no more expensive sit down restaurants in this town. Especially sports bar and grill type restaurants. We already have way too many of those. This town needs some culture. A live venue would be nice but it’s highly unlikely in this sleepy town.
So glad they are building another Starbucks!
Was a great place years ago to hang out. Spent many hours there and we had a few Holiday parties there (thanks Jessica Rose Dorny) and have good memories.
An indoor skate park and or roller rink our kids in scv need to keep busy and out of trouble
The adults in this town need to have fun too! Music and dancing place I wish….I had a lot of fun at The Greens. Miss it.
