A Placerita Junior High School student who was accused of making threats on Facebook in March was found guilty Tuesday.
“The judge yesterday sustained the petition on one count of criminal threats,” said Greg Risling, public information officer for the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office, on Wednesday. “(That essentially means) he was found guilty of a criminal threats count.”
The 14-year-old student, who can not be named because the individual is a juvenile, is scheduled to be sentenced on Jan. 27 in Sylmar Juvenile Court.
The student was detained and taken into custody on March 20, 2015 after threatening to bring guns to the school on Facebook, according to Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials.
“It didn’t appear that there had been any attempt to carry out any type of assault,” said Sgt. Dan Stanley of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
Deputies believe the student was acting alone, and no one was hurt in the incident.
Officials with the Hart District, which oversees Placerita Junior High School, said every incident of this nature is taken “very seriously.”
