[KHTS] – Approximately 150 Santa Clarita residents came out to the fourth annual “Bowling for Kids” charity event at Valencia Lanes on Sunday afternoon to support the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
“I was a patient (at Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles) when I was 10 years old, and they’re a big reason why I’m still here today. So when I was 21, I wanted to do something that will make a difference in the world,” said Taylor Kellstrom, the event organizer. “I put this event together and every year it’s just gotten bigger and better. They helped save me, so I feel giving back is super important to them, especially all the things they do for kids.”
Kellstrom estimated that the event has raised between $15,000 and $17,000 for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles over the past four years the event has been running.
“I feel like I’m doing with God has put me on this planet to do,” Kellstrom said. “And I want to make a difference in my community and for the people who have helped me.”
A toy donation and a silent auction were also hosted at the event.
Some of the items auctioned off included a free semester of books for College of the Canyons’ students, provided by the SCV Book Exchange, and an autographed baseball from the Anaheim Angels.
Kellstrom added that there were many sponsors behind the event, including: the SCV Book Exchange, SCVTV, KHTS AM-1220, the Magazine of Santa Clarita, the Los Angeles Lakers, the Los Angeles Dodgers, Apollo’s Barber Shop, the Anaheim Angeles and UCLA, among others.
“It’s really cool to see the community come together and rally behind this event that I had started four years ago,” said Kellstrom. “Every year when this time comes around, it really makes me happy to be able to do such a good thing for these awesome kids (at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles) that are going through a lot, and their families as well.”
