College of the Canyons men’s golf won its second consecutive Western State Conference tourney with an eight-stroke victory at Cypress Ridge Golf Club on Monday, March 2.
Canyons (43-2) was led by freshman Arnaud Bouhaniche, who earned medalist honors for the second time in as many weeks. Bouhaniche finished one-under-par at 71 on Monday, one shot ahead of runner-up Hugo Mollerat of Santa Barbara City College.
Bouhaniche also took medalist honors at the Riverside City College Invitational on Feb. 23.
Monday’s team results trended the same way, with COC turning in a four-player score of 296 to finish in the top spot ahead of SBCC at 304. Ventura College was third in the eight-team field at 310.
The Cougars also received scoring rounds from Jacques Struyf (73), who tied for third overall in the field of nearly 50. Sophomore Anthony Nilson was one shot back of Struyf, good for fifth overall.
Ed Beehag represented the final scoring mark with a round of 78. That score tied with three others for eighth place.
Mason Turnbull (80-T16) and Chad Stevenson (82-T23) were part of the Canyons contingent but did not factor into the final team scoring.
The tourney, hosted by Allan Hancock College, marked the first time this season that all six of COC’s competing players finished in the top-25 of the individual standings.
The Cougars continue conference play Monday, March 9 at Rio Bravo Country Club in the WSC event hosted by Bakersfield College. Tee time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
