A Santa Clarita man was detained in a Valencia parking lot in connection with an ongoing investigation into allegations of physical threats, sheriff’s officials confirmed.

Units from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department converged on 39-year-old Jacob Baumgarten as he exited the Harbor Freight store on the 23300 block of Valencia Boulevard shortly after noon, according to Shirley Miller, spokeswoman for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

Video taken at the scene shows units pulling into the parking lot and surrounding Baumgarten.

Deputies pulled their service weapons and ordered the man to comply and kneel on the pavement. A sheriff’s deputy handcuffed Baumgarten and escorted him to a nearby patrol SUV.

Miller noted deputies took the man into custody on a warrant for making “terrorist threats.”

“(Baumgarten) was facing eviction and made threats to kill individuals if they came to get him,” Miller said.

Acting under the suspicion the man had firearms, deputies augmented their response to include additional units, Miller said.

The investigation, which includes the sheriff’s station’s Crime Impact Team and the county’s Major Crimes detail, is ongoing, Miller said.
