[KHTS] – More than 100 people of all ages came out Saturday morning to support the Domestic Violence Center of Santa Clarita Valley at the fourth annual Purple Walk of Strength.
Modeled after the “paint or color runs,” the Purple Walk of Strength colored participants in shades of purple to raise awareness about the prevalence of domestic and family violence as well as local resources.
“The purple is the domestic violence color and October is Domestic Violence Awareness month,” said Linda Davies, executive director for the DVC of SCV. “People are out here now running to support victims of domestic violence. They’re here to support the services we do and help us raise money to continue those services in our community.”

During October and every month, the DVC of SCV provides community members with access to intervention programs to help those involved in domestic and family violence situations, while also educating residents to help stop the cycle of abuse.
“Domestic violence is a significant issue,” said Captain Roosevelt Johnson with the SCV Sheriff’s Station. “If you hear something and you know someone is a victim of domestic violence, do your part in reporting that so that we can prevent some tragedies from happening in our communities.”
One in 33 men and one in four women will be abused in their lifetime, said Davies.
The DVC of SCV sees approximately 1,500 women, men and children every year, Davies added.
“(The Purple Walk of Strength) is a great way for people to say and explain that domestic violence is something that happens in many families and in communities across the world,” Davies said. “There are people here who have witnessed domestic violence in their lifetimes.”
Joseph Arcos, who came in third place, came out to support the cause Saturday morning but was not running for anyone in particular, he said.
“I’m just happy to be here,” Acros said. “It’s a good cause.”
All funds raised at the Purple Walk of Strength directly benefitted the DVC of SCV and programming to help families in need.

According to the U.S.DOJ statistics, 97% of violence is perpetrated by males, the #1 cause of death in pregnant women is [homicide] the males that impregnate kill them. The #2 cause of death in women is [homicide] their male partners kill them. Violence against women is a misnomer-it is actually [male violence against women]. Yet divorce court judges never find abuse. The U.S.DOJ found the nation’s divorce court judges award custody of children to abusive fathers based on parental alienation.
