There are many events and activities available this week to honor the finale of the Santa Clarita Library’s Summer Reading Program.
With the Summer Reading Program coming to a close at the Santa Clarita Library this week, children events coordinator Kelly Behle wants the community to know that you can still sign up for the program. The program at the Santa Clarita library is different than many other libraries because the program doesn’t measure the amount of pages or books you read in a certain time. The library stresses the importance of personal goals, which is what allows anyone to join the program at any time.
“Kids, teens and adults set their own reading goals. So there is still time to sign up, you would just make a goal that is reasonable to complete by Saturday night.” said Behle.
The program has seen a lot of success this summer, with the amount of people registered and the amount of books read. At this time there are “2,843 kindergarten through sixth graders involved and registered in the program, 619 teens, more than 850 adults and as of right now over 9,000 books read altogether” said Behle.
There are a couple of big events this week to honor the end of the summer reading program.
This Thursday at 1pm at the College of the Canyons Performing arts center there is a free performance of “Wacko the Magician.”
“It is a nice opportunity for families to go to a great theater in air conditioning and see a great performance” said Behle.
To send out the the summer reading program with a bang, the Santa Clarita Valley Library has teamed up with the City of Santa Clarita’s Summer Bash. The first Summer Bash will take place on Friday, July 25, in Canyon Country on Luther Drive from 6:00 to 10:00 pm.
“The Summer Bash will have a live band, sand, drawings and games” said Behle. “There will also be a collection of summer themed books for families to check out at the bash.”
