Thursdays at Newhall returns to Main Street tonight with an “Art Slam” celebrating women’s history month, but something familiar will be missing from Main Street Newhall.

The city of Santa Clarita has cancelled the weekly farmers market. It had been expected to return in March after a winter hiatus.

“The farmers markets were not as well-attended as we would have liked, despite trying different vendors,” city spokeswoman Gail Morgan said.

artslam030614Coastal Pacific, a company that manages markets in the Los Angeles, Riverside and Ventura counties, had been operating the weekly market in Newhall since March 2012.

The “Thursdays at Newhall” series will feature the Art Slam, JAM Sessions and Senses on the first, second and third Thursdays of each month, respectively.

JAM Sessions are the newest addition to the Main Street lineup. The city has teamed up with the Ford Theatre Foundation to host free interactive music events on Main Street between Lyons Avenue and 9th Street on the second Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
