In case you hadn’t noticed, it’s hot outside and forecasters don’t think it’s going to get much better this week.

Hot temperatures – in the triple digits – are expected across the inland portions of Southwest California this week, due to a strong high pressure and a weak onshore flow.

The Santa Clarita valley has the distinction of being one of the warmest in So Cal, second only to the Antelope Valley, where temps of 105-110 are expected.

Temperatures will be cooler in the coastal areas, with beaches holding out in the 70s, with patchy dense fog at times during the late night and morning hours.

Overnight lows are expected to be warmer than usual, with lows ranging from the mid to upper 60s in the valleys to low and mid 70s in the foothills and Antelope Valley.

Very little relief is expected this week, in fact, humidities will be increasing as moisture moves in from the Southeast, resulting in an increase in the heat index reading and possibly exceeding heat warning criteria in some areas.

Persons planning to be outdoors this week should practice heat safety tips: keep your body hydrated with plenty of water and avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day.

Be especially mindful of children and pets in cars; remember that temperatures climb to dangerous levels in a matter of minutes. Also, be aware of cooling centers supported by the City of Santa Clarita and County of Los Angeles at the Valencia and Canyon Country libraries and the SCV Senior Center on Market Street in Newhall.
