1997 - Five bodies found during grading of Northlake development in Castaic; determined to be Jenkins graveyard [story]
reburial

A fatal big-rig crash in Gorman left one dead and another injured Tuesday morning.

Dominador B. Oropilla, 55, of Mesa, Ariz., was driving a big rig northbound in the far right lane of Interstate 5, just south of Highway 138, around 6:40 a.m. when the crash occurred, according to CHP reports.

Oropilla, who was hauling a load of about 35 tons of tomatoes in a Peterbilt tractor trailer, was moving at a slow rate of speed, when the a Mack truck struck the rear end of Oropilla’s big rig.

logo_chpThe driver of the Mack truck sustained fatal injuries in the crash, and he was not identified in the CHP’s collision report.

Los Angeles County Fire Department officials pronounced the Mack truck driver was dead at the scene of the crash.

Oropilla sustained minor injuries in the crash, and he was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

As a result of the collision, several gallons of diesel fuel were spilled onto the roadway and into an adjacent property east of the roadway.

Alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor to this collision at this time, however, this investigation is continuing.

The Nos. 2, 3 and 4 lanes of northbound I-5 south of SR-138 were closed for several hours for vehicle recovery and trailer offloading.

No arrests were made in the crash, according to Officer John Lutz of the California Highway Patrol.
