College of the Canyons men’s golf competed at the Riverside City College Invitational at Victoria Country Club on Monday, Feb. 23, with the Cougars finishing second in team scoring while also seeing Arnaud Bouhaniche claim individual medalist honors.

Canyons (35-2) entered two six-man teams in the event, which attracted 14 programs from across the state.

The Cougars’ top team finished second with a four-man score of 290, just one stroke back of event winner Reedley College (289).

The second grouping from Canyons placed third at a score of 302. Victor Valley College (303), Santa Barbara City College (307) and host Riverside City College (308) rounded out the top six positions.

The Cougars also had five players finish in the top five of the individual standings, including Bouhaniche, who finished the day one-under-par at 71.

COC sophomore Ed Beehag tied for third place with two others at an even par 72.

Jacques Struyf and Chad Stevenson were both part of a group of six players that tied for ninth place in the field of 100. Stevenson’s day was highlighted by a hole-in-one. COC freshman Jack Franklin, who competed on the second Canyons squad, was also included in that tie at the No. 9 position.

COC sophomore Anthony Nilson and freshman Carl Magnus Aagren Naythan Cruz were both included in a group of five that tied for 15th overall with matching scores of 75.

Cougars’ freshman Mason Turnbull was five-over-par at 77 to tie for 27th place, with Kai Willenone shot off that pace at 78 in a tie for 32nd.

Roy Chan (81/T48th) and Lars Van Beeck (82/T56) also competed for COC but had their scores scratched.

Canyons will next return to Western State Conference play on Monday, March 2, at Santa Maria Country Club.
