Update 7:08PM – Incident concluded at 7:08 p.m. No suspect found. Deputies will be escorting kids to their families.

Original story:

Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station are searching for a possibly armed suspect at Dr. J. Michael McGrath Elementary School in Newhall.

Deputies have not been able to locate a gunman but are on scene searching the area, said Sgt. Cohen with the SCV Sheriff’s Station.

The school has been placed on lockdown, Cohen said.

Deputies are clearing McGrath Elementary School room-by-room. Several teachers and multiple students are present in classrooms, even after 6 p.m.

The incident was reported at 5:33 p.m.

Two students called the SCV Sheriff’s Station thinking they saw two men walk into the school, one of the men with a gun, said Cohen.

McGrath Elementary School is located at 21501 Deputy Jake Dr., off of Valle Del Oro.
