Hospital staff at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital are using their dance moves to help raise money for breast cancer research.

Dr. Brian Ayuste has submitted a locally produced video (seen above) into a national contest in hopes to win $25,000 for the Avon Foundation.

Ayuste and the video’s dance choreographer, Penny Buffone, were interviewed on SCV Today, SCVTV’s morning talk show, in an episode that premiered Thursday morning . Watch here.

Their 90-second music video is set to the song “Brave” by Sara Bareilles.

“The song resonated with me personally,” Ayuste said. “I thought it would help encourage our patients to continue to fight through their cancer and overall to be brave.”

Dr. Auyste held practice sessions during lunch to teach the busy staff how to tutt, a style of dance using your hands, as seen in the video.

He said over the course of a week they spent about 18 hours filming the video around the hospital staff’s hectic schedules.

“Many people who work at the hospital have family members who have been affected by breast cancer,” he said. “In the video we try to tell a story about their challenges through treatment.”

1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point in their lives, said Ayuste.
