Janet Napolitano
Updated to include further comment from Acosta.
SACRAMENTO – The Joint Legislative Audit Committee has refused to dig deeper into allegations of financial misconduct by the University of California Office of the President in response to the secret $175 million fund unearthed in a recent California State Auditor report.
The forensic audit was requested by Assemblyman Dante Acosta (R-Santa Clarita) and failed on a party-line vote.
Janet Napolitano was named the 20th president of the University of California on July 18, 2013, and took office on Sept. 30, 2013.
“I am fighting to return trust to the institution of the UC Office of the President for students, parents, faculty, and staff,” Acosta said. “Only complete transparency can accomplish that goal.”

Assembly Republicans first requested a legislative subpoena after an investigation by the State Auditor revealed that the UC Office of the President amassed secret slush funds of $175 million dollars while raising tuition and fees on students.
During the investigation, UCOP censored campus administrators’ responses to auditor’s surveys and interfered with attempts to obtain accurate financial data.
Assembly Republicans have called for accountability in the office of the UCOP. Following the glaring misconduct regarding University of California funds and California State Auditor surveys, they requested legislative subpoenas to uncover all information related to the misconduct.
Acosta’s request would have triggered a forensic investigation of undisclosed budget expenditures to determine whether actual transactions match what was recorded in the budget development system of the UCOP.
Asked by SCVNewsFriday afternoon what his next step would be, Acosta was undeterred: “I won’t back down from this issue. Transparency is of ultimate importance and a right of every Californian. I will keep fighting for an open government for all.”

This does not surprise me one bit. Democrat run state protecting democrat appointed democrat official.
Janet is being protected by Jerry Browm…both are criminals. Funniest part is all the idiot dems…being fleeced with the rest of us Californians…still blindly support dems…talk about clueless.
I hope this is of concern to every Californian. Already our state has the distinction of being last in financial transparency. I thank and admire Mr. Acosta for his efforts but I fear the Left’s stranglehold will prevail over justice.
I think California is working on the Illinois Financial Plan…Spend it all and go broke. What??? where did the money go? In this case they are hiding it…several big questions. What were they going to do with the $175 mil? and who will be held accountable?
The biggest problem is that people do not vote objectively, they vote along party lines. People are encouraged to vote, many do not research what they are voting on. Yes, encourage people to vote, however make sure that they vote based on what they have researched. I vote for both Democrats and Republicans, there is a danger on people being loyal to only a certain group. I believe most politicians are crooked, and if you follow State politics, you will see so many get caught taking money under the table, or stealing money from tax payers, both Democrats and Republicans. I voted for Democrats in Congress, however Brown is horrible and voted for a Republican Governor and Acosta. What is really discouraging is that I feel that I am always choosing a lesser of two evils for every single politician I vote for.
