The list of groups opposing the sneak attack to raise taxes on property owners continues to grow with the Los Angeles Business Federation, a business advocacy organization representing 101 other organizations and 185,000 businesses, coming out against the Flood Control District’s effort to impose additional storm water fees, Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich said Monday.
“The Nature Trust of the Santa Monica Mountains also notified our office saying that a new $46,000 tax will put them out of business and force them to sell the nature preserve.”
“This ill-conceived tax will have a devastating impact on businesses, schools, houses of worship and non-profits.”
“We are getting calls from churches who say they will be charged upwards of $7,000 a year in new taxes and won’t be able to keep their doors open.”
“Large commercial chains like Target and Ralphs, with multiple locations around LA County, could see their tax bills increase by $500,000 — costs they will undoubtedly pass on to the consumer.”
Additional business opposition includes the Glendale Chamber of Commerce; United Chambers of the San Fernando Valley; San Gabriel Valley Legislative Coalition of Chambers; San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership and the South Bay Association of Chambers of Commerce.
School Districts in opposition include Los Angeles Unified School District; Long Beach Unified School District; West Covina Unified School District; Glendale Unified School District; Monrovia Unified School District; Burbank Unified School District and La Canada Unified School District.
The “Official Notice to Property Owners of Public Hearing” was mailed last month.
Residents have until Jan. 15 to file their objection by returning their protest form or protesting at the public hearing on Jan. 15, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Hearing Room of the Board of Supervisors at the Hall of Administration. If a majority of the property owners do not object, the Board of Supervisors can approve a mail-in-ballot to be sent to all property owners in March. Passage requires only a simple majority.

I am a Stormwater Management Auditor that travels nation lly and internationally. The problem with L.A. iss that they keep taxing and creating more regulations rather than enforce the regulations they already have. L.A. government doent put boots on the ground to conduct inspections. Because the City and county arent doing their, job, some idiot always proposes more regulations and taxes.
