DMV and Line[DMV, Feb. 18] – The California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) today released statistics for implementation of Assembly Bill 60 for the first full month of implementation data.

* 59,000: AB 60 driver licenses issued in January 2015. A license is not issued until the applicant proves identity and residency with qualifying documents or through secondary review, passes a written knowledge exam, and completes a behind-the-wheel drive exam.

* 113,172: Total original (non-commercial) driver licenses issued in January 2015. This number includes the number of AB 60 driver licenses issued in January 2015.

* 74,028: Total original (non-commercial) driver licenses issued in January 2014. This number shows how many original driver licenses DMV issued before AB 60.

* 236,000: Number of AB 60 applicants applying for a license. This is the total number of unique individuals who started the application process in January 2015.

* 374,000: Number of AB 60 customer visits. Data identifies the AB 60 customers provided a ticket at the “Start Here” window, which can include starting an application, taking and exam or other transactions.

* 962,000: Total statewide driver license customer visits. Data identifies the total number of DL related visits statewide, which includes AB 60 applicants along with all driver license customer visits in January.

* 429,000: Total number of written knowledge and drive tests administered to AB 60 applicants. DMV administered 362,000 written knowledge tests and 67,000 drive tests to AB 60 applicants in January.

* 48% – Statewide written knowledge exam passage rate for all applicants for a new driver license. Includes AB 60 applicants. For comparison, 47% of applicants passed the written knowledge test in 2014.

* 67% – Statewide drive test passage rate for all applicants for a new driver license. Includes AB 60 applicants. For comparison, 61% of applicants passed the drive test in 2014.

All statistics are approximate figures gathered from Friday, January 2, 2015 to Saturday, January 31, 2015.

The DMV has a helpful AB 60 information webpage, http://ab60.dmv.ca.gov, containing a complete list of acceptable documents that can be used to verify identity and residency, a copy of the driver handbook, sample knowledge tests, appointment information, and other relevant materials.

  12. Emily Ball says:

The AB 60 applicants had a higher passage rate! LOl

    • To play devil’s advocate, could that be because most drivers license applicants that are non-AB 60 are younger, less experienced and nervous teenagers? It would seem that AB 60 applicants may be older, more experienced and have probably been driving for a while. Just a possible explanation, but I don’t have the stats on age, so I’m just hypothesizing.

  13. Emily Ball says:

No need for hypothesizing. The statistics speak for themselves!

  14. Lynn Witt says:

you can’t even get close to a dmv to take care of your business because of this crap. they should have set up temporary satellite locations for these yahoos to go to.

  15. Luis Hidalgo says:

    I drive without a license

  16. Sandy Hack says:

DMV’s proud AB60 stats only illuminate how inadequate their preparations were. A display of massive incompetence that is being paid for by thousands of us who must renew a license at a DMV office.

  17. When they apply they should be arrested and deported haha.
