1997 - Five bodies found during grading of Northlake development in Castaic; determined to be Jenkins graveyard [story]
reburial

Medical examiners Thursday identified a man killed Wednesday afternoon when a tire fell off of a moving vehicle on the 14 Freeway, striking and killing a motorist.

Paul Begay, 49, was killed Wednesday in southbound lanes near the Placerita Canyon Road off-ramp.

Begay,  a U.S. Marine and father of two, was a registered nurse. He was on his way to Olive View Medical Center in Sylmar when the accident occurred, according to a GOFUNDME PAGE set up by family members who are seeking the public’s help to defray funeral expenses.

The family said:

This is a very heart wrenching thing to have to write about… Today I lost my father, his name was Paul Begay. Some of you might have seen this on the news today, “Driver killed by tire coming off another car.”

He was on his way to work at Oliveview medical center, when this horrific accident took his life.  He worked as an RN and also made Native American arts and crafts. He was a hard working man all his life and like any other day he was on his way to work when this accident happened. We are all still processing what happened to him. It is going to be a long and hard but we will continue to pray and have faith things will be OK.

He is going to be missed dearly by his family and by the people who he has helped working in the medical field. I made this gofund me to help with the expenses for this tragic event that left our hearts in so much pain. All funds will be used for the funeral service and expenses, anything helps. Thank you to all who have prayed for us! He is survived by his wife Cecelia Begay , Shannon Begay, Sean Paul Begay, Frank Santellan, and his two grandchildren.

By 7 p.m., the GoFundMe page had surpassed its $10,000 goal.

A few months ago I hit something on the 14 that must have fell out of a workers truck. Launched my full size SUV into the air, and caused extensive, expensive damage. Could have been worse, but it was still pretty bad. My condolences to the family.
