The SCV Senior Center will host four free Health Education and Wellness lectures throughout June. Each of the lectures will begin at 1 p.m. in rooms A-1 and A-2 at the SCV Senior Center located at 22900 Market Street in Newhall.

June 6 – “Senior Home Ownership, Mortgages and Loan Information,” presented by Candy Stone Watson, Reverse Mortgage Consultant for 1st Reverse Mortgage USA, Betty Wright, Real Estate Loan Officer for Lockheed Federal Credit Union, and Rick Mahn of Centennial Realty, a specialist in senior home ownership in the SCV.

June 13 – “Sun Safety,” presented by Cathy Spaid, Emergency Room Nurse, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

June 20 – “Emergency Preparedness and Fall Prevention,” presented by Sandra Gomez, Emergency Preparedness Public Health Nurse and JoAnna Levinson, Community Liaison Public Health Nurse, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

June 27 – “Healthy Heart Workshop,” presented by Facey Medical Group/Providence Health and Services.

Blood Pressure: Testing by nurses every Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. in room A-6 (off dining room). Important testing/monitoring for seniors with hypertension (high blood pressure), heart/lung/kidney problems, history of stroke, etc.

Audiology (hearing): On Wednesday June 6 from 11 a.m. to noon, Audiologist Nola Aronson of Advanced Audiology will provide hearing exams in the Supportive Services modular. Primarily for persons who do not wear hearing aids, although all hearing-related questions welcome.

Diabetes (blood sugar): On Wednesday June 13 from 11 a.m. to noon, Registered Dietitian Lori Robinson will provide glucose checks in Supportive Services. Screening primarily for those with diabetes or pre-diabetes. Minimum three hour pre-test fast is required.

Roar Foundation Matching Grant Opportunity

Her generous spirit is reflected in her estate plan, which provides for a gift of $100,000 to the Roar Foundation in honor of Tippi Hedren, provided that the Roar Foundation receives $100,000 in matching grants within one year of her death.
