1905 - County buys property to build Newhall Jail (now next to city's Old Town Newhall Library) [story]
Old Newhall Jail

The Los Angeles County Coroner’s office has identified the victim of Friday afternoon’s car crash on Copper Hill Drive as Dylan Zimmerman of Valencia.

Zimmerman was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed to the massive injuries he sustained when, at about 3:55 p.m., a white Ford Fusion was traveling eastbound on Copper Hill and collided with his black Honda Civic, which was exiting Copperstone Drive, deputies said.

Friends and family members said the young man turned 21 on Jan. 9.

According to his Facebook profile, Zimmerman is a 2011 Valencia High School graduate and was studying architecture at College of the Canyons. He also studied art in 2012 at UC Santa Cruz. He was employed as a member of the Geek Squad – Best Buy’s team of computer repair experts – and previously worked at JC Penney and Stonefire Grill.

Anyone with information about the collision is asked to call Detective Travis Kelly at 661-255-1121.

    Rest in lease Dylan

  12. Kristie Mann says:

Very, very disappointed by this post. Not only is the photo something that Dylan’s parents, friends and family shouldn’t have to see every time they turn around, but there is also inaccurate information. Would it really be too much to ask for the media to have a little respect and at least check in with the family before posting/printing stories where facts have not yet been verified or confirmed?

    • Uhhh, I think the story says the info came from the coroner’s office. Almost positive the media didn’t make it up. Maybe the photo is questionable, but I saw an accident scene on KTLA this morning and didn’t once think that they shouldn’t have that story because of the family. Just sayin’.

  13. Kelly Parco says:

I agree Kristie, but the media doesnt care about the family, only in getting the best picture. The sheriffs too. They didn’t notify my best friend or her family after her son was murdered out here 6 years ago, they have no respect. May this young man rest in peace. My prayers are with his family and loved ones.

  14. Michael Pare says:

    Wow my prayers go out

  15. Get it right – he is 21 not 20 remove this picture if you have any respect for Dylan’s mom Donna and his family. Have some respect. I was on the scene and I was with his mother of finding out this news – this family is devastated enough – he has a younger sister and she doesn’t need to see this. You want to show something – ask his family for a loving picture of him alive in his light not this. Ridiculous.

  16. Debbi Foley says:

    Oh NOOOOOO……so horrible!

  17. Sad news happens but we all have the right to know what’s happens in our town. Yes this young man died and yes his family will see it but please the rest of us need to know what’s going on. If young people die because of senseless accidents or violence or drug use we need to know so we as a community can do something to prevent it.

  18. Lisa says:
