Re-experience Helen Hunt Jackson’s 1882 visit to Rancho Camulos – which inspired her to include this vestige of the Californio lifestyle as one of the settings for her novel, “Ramona.”
On Jan. 31 at 1 p.m., reenactors will engage and delight you as they portray this event which forever changed the peaceful life at Rancho Camulos.
“A Woman with a Mission,” a presentation on the life of Helen Hunt Jackson by author Patricia Clark Doerner, will follow the reenactment.

Docent-led public tours of Rancho Camulos are available Sundays at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., and by appointment. See the “Home of Ramona,” including the 1853 adobe, 1867 chapel and winery, 1930 schoolhouse, and beautiful grounds.
During your visit, view the 1910 silent film, “Ramona,” starring Mary Pickford, which was filmed on location at Rancho Camulos.
The suggested donation for tours is $5 for adults and $3 for children over 5. Entrance to the non-profit museum, which sits on private property, is allowed only with a docent escort. Check the website (RanchoCamulos.org) before going in case of weather-related closures or special activities.
